Beaver Island Print Shop Museum

The Beaver Island Work Experience is a partnership between Beaver Island Community Schools, Beaver Island Historical Society, and Northwest Michigan Works. Northwest Michigan Works is a non-profit organization and is the leading workforce development agency serving job seekers and employers in the Northwest Lower Michigan counties.

4 students have applied and will begin a 2 week Career work experience at Beaver Island Historical Society this includes a paid position in which students become employees of the Beaver Island Historical Society to learn career focused hard and soft skills which are included in the following:

Marketing: newspaper/Historical Society related tasks:
•Write 4 articles for the Northern Islander with Beaver Island content at the direction of the Northern Islander Editor.
•Assist with circulation tasks, such as, printing & mailing renewal letters and 3rd quarter advertising.
•Assist with marketing for both the Historical Society and Northern Islander, such as, hanging flyers, distributing newspapers or marketing brochures to stakeholders, posting on Social Media or creation of a marketing image for the museums or paper.
•Processing new subscriptions
Customer service: cash handling, working with patrons, stocking inventory
•Greet the public upon entry to the museums, answer questions about the museum exhibits/local history
•Help stock the gift shop: stickering, stocking, making sure sticker matches price in the store software
